Illustration of the internal human body, Digestive System

14 of 100, The circulatory system.

The 14th page is an illustration of the circulatory system. It’s done as a doodle that is inspired by the disassembled cassette player from Doodle 12 of 100. In both pieces the insides are laid out like an Ikea illustration. The systems as a still images makes my brain happy. The use of a fountain ink brush adds a lot of playful character to both pieces. More ‘system doodles’ exploration will happen. Keep watching the 100 day sketchbook project. I would love to hear from you, What system would you like me to doodle in the pink sketchbook?

8 of 100 days of art making

How to make the sandwich pictured below. The best sandwich starts with 10 slices of toasted whole wheat bread. Lay them out like a game of solitaire. Each slice will need a dollop of mayonnaise, a pinch of Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Now add two crispy bacon strips to each slice. Depending on the season, a garnish of cucumber and spinach is added, but if it’s winter use sour cherries and pickle juice. The Cornish hens soaked in lemon juice and jalapeño peppers for 24 hours go next. Remember to separate the jalapeños, lemon juice and Cornish …

7 rows of animal sketches, 5 cats, 7 squirrels, 5 humans, 4 dogs, 5 birds, 3 foxes, and 4 rabbits

7 of 100, animal zoom call

Cats, squirrels, folks, dogs, birds, foxes, and rabbits are all part of my backyard zoo. Cat spots a squirrel. Cat freezes, only a tail like a spastic autograph can be seen. This cat has spent precious napping time planning and scheming for this moment. At the window a tiny dog rings the alarm, ‘Bark Bark Bark!’. The squirrel and cat retreat. This happens over and over again. It is a delivery person, or a bird to close to a window. Once it was a fox and a rabbit deciding who was coming to dinner. I know of every event because …

Girl and graffiti on wheels.

I have been working on lots of things, round and round. Today working on the face and mood of the next watercolor ‘girl riding in front of graffiti’. The first day sketching can be the hardest, my favorite. Getting the shape of summer, speed, joy and a tiny amount of anxiety in the smile. The first painting what a two wheeler, next a three wheeler (big wheel style). Now for a four wheeler skater. Roller skating at the end of summer, watercolor.

Sock Bush, a Doodling comic.

Sock Bush, a doodling story by Alex Feliciano. It is around sunset that always puts Larry in a sleepyhead mood. My Inspiration As the day turns and the impending closure it near. I feel the weight of another wasted day. I rush to my desk to beat the moon who will soon illuminate my failing use of time. A nearly unrealistic graffitti artist who likes to take naps and draw dreams. When I was little I thought there must be a secret book that would teach me how to be an artist. I looked for this book in the library …

Blue faced rocks

our pockets filled with rocks some of the rocks had happy faces, others cute, gross, and weird. My oldest very excitedly asked me, “Is this Graffitti?” Lol. We put them in planters, next to crosswalk buttons, in the crooks of trees and while the family was engaged in mild acts of artistic expression. Michi called me.

Rocks in Vancouver

We found a bunch of lovely rocks in Vancouver and decided to talk to them. They all had something to say, so we painted them. Drawing on rock, the group photo. The rocks where a skinny arms reach out the window and I couldn’t resist them… so it started with a flat odd rock. First rock, flat and odd. Who ever heard of a Rock fish? One eyed rock face with tongue. Rock face wearing spectacles. Blue and black rock face. I want to call this one Chunk, the rock face boy. Little Rock face, now with more tongue. Little …

Lots of cutting and glueing going on at night.

Halloween is coming and way to quickly. I’m trying to get this giant cardboard monster built and I’m going to be cutting it really close. Cardboard scales instead of fur for this Kukeri inspired monster. After the drawing and thinking and drawing. I started out with a pool noodle spine and some graduated cardboard disks. Four strings run down each side and through the disks, now I can pull on a string and the head will tilt down in that direction. Now to cut lots of scales and bits to be the covering, kinda like fur. After that, the whole …

Figure drawing with fill tool.

More than once one of the six art instructors at NWSA would say ‘Draw from life, it’s the best teacher’, yep they where/are right. Figure drawings are the thing people singles out for praise when they are look thought your sketchbook, ‘did you draw that, so talented’, nope that is just practice. So practice drawing hands and feet, draw strangers on the bus, and in bars (creepy). If you feel weird drawing strangers for free come to the figure drawing event. Alpharetta has a bimonthly figure drawing/painting event. Search FB for… ‘alpharetta figure drawing/painting group’. I will see you there. …

Late night doodles

Yes, up late and making marks on paper, today I’m rocking a red sharpie, a red dry erase and a red Windsor Newton watercolor maker. Dogs and peaceshocka for pages. All tiny little thorny. Small micro dogs stitched and fat. Dogs thin tiny little… again and again. lots of red. Peace, peace, peace, peace, peace, peace, peace, peace….all red then I switch to using a strange black ink brush pen, foam tip style… not my fave, it might be a bit dry.

Davie artist Alex Feliciano

Florida WestFair Murals Ran across this newspaper clipping while helping my mom move. I thought it might be fun to post. In 1996 a good friend of the family helped me get this gig painting murals. I was supposed to do a group thing where I organized my peers to come down and paint, but that didn’t happen so I painted two big ass murals myself. I’m sure made everyone involved very nervous. It was two very long weekends where I painted the best and largest sunset I had ever done and spilt a pints worth of 1Shot fire red …

I brought an iPad to the bi-monthly Alpharetta Figure Drawing/Painting Group. The Group brought in Scott to pose he’s the first male model in a long time and it’s the first time using my iPad at a life drawing event. Tonights sketches all posted below. We started, like most sessions, with one Minute poses. I took a minutes to make a quick pallet. As the night went on i added a pink and yellow. Big fills with ‘Roller’ tool. I’m using #Paper53 to do the drawings. The ‘Roller’ tool is my favorite! Still just doing one minute drawings I feel a bit clumsy with the …

More Post-it note fun

I have been using these little yellow squares like crack, little doodle yellow scraps of sticky paper. Loving the ‘Stabilo’ point 88 markers. Doodling while kids are at karate. alway carry markers. I might make a Block, for printing out of this one. I have never done a multiple print block print, But… Expanding ‘There’ and ‘Their’ to Oscar (6) while in the middle of a monster doodle fight. Having a great day and doodling it in small moments of time.

Street art class makes Prints

Stickers, you wanna’ make stickers… Ok, what do you know about a printing press? So we selected some sketches, tried them out using thick makers on paper (Draw thick lines to cut thick lines). The students worked out the composition on paper then transferred it over to the rubber printing blocks. Then the scary part KNIFES you can’t make cool stuff without them. After a quick safety lesson including graphic descriptions of possible wounds I passed out the block cutting knifes, happy to report no injuries. HURRAY! They cut thin then cut thick ribbions out of the rubber block, soon they …

Three woman paintings

Update: Three woman paintings, they are working out. I have been finding moments to paint. Clem reminds me while she finds a warm spot on the floor in the studio. (Thanks Steve for the great easel). Three woman paintings, 30″ x 40″, acrylic on canvas. I have been going to a open sketch group and working up painting based on some of the sketches. Every painting is getting more pumped to get to the next one. The patterns in this one is making me happy, slowly I go. This is Clem’s favorite painting.

Street art class, on The PaintYard

The Paint Yard, wrote a nice post about the ‘Street Art Class’ The paint yard is a great place to get a variety of spray paint and supplies (fat caps, liners, specialty paints, markers and more) and they have the ‘Sugar’ from the makers of Ironlak, the paint is special. It combines water with alcohol made from sugar cane, replacing the usual petroleum-based solvents. The result is an extremely low-odor spray paint that contains fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds). It is important that students are safe and get to work with high quality materials, while learning the fundamentals of design …

Street Art class, making wrapping paper

The street art class is winding down. The five week long street art class has hit class number five and number five was so fun, it started out as a lesson on stencils and evolved into a wrapping paper making project. The session ended so well we are adding one more class (a sixth week). Great work everyone! Everyone really pushed and got their hand dirty. Detail, an orange snowflake under a gold start, hiding behind a green tree, that was run over by a candy cane. lots of stencilling action going on here. The Montana water based paints worked great, Thanks …

Figure drawing event, Sketchbook look.

Sketching from life at Studio in Alpharetta. We had such a great model, she made my job easy. Mona had great poses and locked it in for sets of 1, 3 5 10 and 15 minute. I started with a red “Supracolor II soft made by Caran d’Ache“, (more) pencil, very soft , but I was alway able to find an edge and get tight when I wanted.  At first, I went back and forth and, finally settled on red. The end results were more than I hoped for.

More heads and cardboard

Making costumes for Halloween! We have started early this year. All cardboard and maybe some paint this year. Yes it’s a giant animal head. This is where I’m at, as of last night. Tonight will be a coin flip sleep or ears. Starting with some basic shapes i’m worked the muzzle and eyes in, I built some shoulder pads (not pictured) and plan on mounting this to them.   Here is Gio modeling it, ears and paws are next… stay tuned.

Painting number two, “Findings”, digging into the archives for new painting.

The act of discovery is something that set the senses a tingle. While I was digging through old sketchbooks for inspiration, and came across this ink drawing it’s 3.5″x5″.  I’m going to use it for painting number two, working title: Findings. I hope I can keep the spirit of the drawing in the new painting.  I used the attitude in a quick sketch for the painting, The canvas is oriented in portrait and slightly larger. I’m trimming some of the negative space, I hope this doesn’t kill the mood that makes the ink sketch special.Digging the toes on the left. This sketch has a lot …

Painting, it begins..again

I have been spending a lot of time this year sketching, in ‘@FiftyThree‘ s Paper53 app on the ipad or at the live drawing events held by #Alpharetta Figure Drawing/Painting Group. I think it’s time to start painting now. Working with brushes is flowing like it should. I start to paint after the kids go to bed then I lookup… and the sun is peeking in. Feels great to lose that much time. Three 40″x30″ canvases, and I have a 40″x70″ that i need to sand and surface. These pieces are still in progress, the one in the center is close to being done. Working on some, …

An AC malfunction, or a reason to get naked

It was hot

I came home early it was hot. Flicked controls on the thermostat. Nothing worked, which way is on? Heat cause it’s hot, that doesn’t sound wrong. Open a window, fiddled with the lock, left or right, it would not pop. Sweat, just a drop. That was it for me. I did care who might see. Flung coat and sweater over my head, shed skirt and tights passed my feet, now lounge bare to enjoyed the heat. This is one of  the “sketches of spring” I will be attempting to make one a day, enjoy and share.

By the Pool in a new suit

New Suit

New Suit The first warm day, the air is clean. I was to long curled within, sun nibbles willing skin. I dip my toe, that’s as far as I will go. Nothing is getting wet. The suit I bought to match the lot, will wait till it is hot. I smile as the children play, enticing me to join the fray. From chattering teeth they shout ‘COME IN’, but it’s a bit too cold to swim.   This is one of  the “sketches of spring” I will be attempting to make one a day, enjoy and share.

woman sitting on a sandy landscape

Fifteen minutes that’s all I get. Just time enough, time to sit. It’s just three take-five’s rolled in one. Early is on time for some.  Just me, my time to breath. I see a spot and feel the breeze. The sun warm on my skin, feet in sand the cool below. Alone but soon they’ll show, In my head I’ll greet them all, “Hello, and welcome y’all”. This is one of  the “sketches of spring” I will be attempting to make one a day, enjoy and share.

Figure drawing event, Sketchbook look.

More figure drawing. I skipped into the figure drawing event today, like a kid going to get ice cream. The model was super and the lighting was challenging (in a good way). The short 3 and 5 minute poses came first, then a cookie break and then back to drawing with some longer poses. This time I didn’t forget to note the times for each drawing. A three minute pose. Getting into the 3 Minute thing, But I miss my blue pencil. This one was super awesome, the model was doing a scary ‘ROAR’ pose but kept laughing. Looking at again …
