Murph stopped by yesterday He added the red one to his collection, then set me this picture. He now owns three dog heads, more info about them here. Seven heads were cast in the first run, Five have been painted, one is in LA, one is in my living room and Murph has the rest. Congratulations!
From Murph’s instagram: mowsecafe Drooling over the latest addition to my art collection. Here we have sculptures of the wee doggie Clem (red version is the new one). Was lucky enough to spend some time with the artist and found we had some real parallels in our history, while both being very different. I’m often captivated by other artists and how they operate and manage their workflow. Work by Alex F. The short of it is, that, I’m an artist as well as a collector. If I can afford to collect and support artists; there’s no doubt, that you can too!!
Murph is a painter and collector, check out this FB and keep up with his instagram
The act of discovery is something that set the senses a tingle. While I was digging through old sketchbooks for inspiration, and came across this ink drawing it’s 3.5″x5″. I’m going to use it for painting number two, working title: Findings. I hope I can keep the spirit of the drawing in the new painting. I used the attitude in a quick sketch for the painting, The canvas is oriented in portrait and slightly larger. I’m trimming some of the negative space, I hope this doesn’t kill the mood that makes the ink sketch special.Digging the toes on the left. This sketch has a lot of new elements and is different than the small original but i think it will still work.
Preparing a canvas with some fun design work. When I have a canvas that has some work on it, it feels less intimidating. I plays better with my ideas than a scary blank canvas.
Putting down some line work, finding the spacing and working out the feet.
I have been spending a lot of time this year sketching, in ‘@FiftyThree‘ s Paper53 app on the ipad or at the live drawing events held by #Alpharetta Figure Drawing/Painting Group. I think it’s time to start painting now. Working with brushes is flowing like it should. I start to paint after the kids go to bed then I lookup… and the sun is peeking in. Feels great to lose that much time.
Three 40″x30″ canvases, and I have a 40″x70″ that i need to sand and surface. These pieces are still in progress, the one in the center is close to being done.
Working on some, overdue, new pieces for #sisandmoon‘s. Lots of work to do but it’s coming out like it hasn’t in awhile.
Green dog is going to get finished. it has been kicking around the studio for a few years. this one is going to be therapeutic.
